There are no official statistics. Jansen Lu is believed to be Hong Kong’s only full time blogger. His blog is on new products and he’s been doing it for years. When asked about his adsense income, he frankly shared that it amounted around US$100 a month. “You can barely use it for the internet connection.” Luckily, internet connections are getting cheaper these days. These kind of figures are probably what the maximum one would expect if he blogs in Chinese, in Hong Kong. Another successful veteran blogger in Hong Kong is Erica Yuen, an ex-beauty pageant contestant who blogs about her work as a TV presenter and about health and beauty. She has recently successfully monetized her popular blog by winning the exclusive rights to sell a brand name collection of beauty products. The on-line business was expanded into a business with both an on-line and a physical shop in busy Causeway Bay in August 2009. These celebrity bloggers are exceptions rather than the rule in Hong Kong where bloggers mostly blog to get read, probably to debrief themselves after a hard day’s work.
